Episode 39: Vulnerability Hangover
Content note: this episode includes discussion of weight, diet culture, etc. If you find these topics triggering at the moment, feel free to come back to this episode another time.
Amanda survived the TEDx experience and lived to tell the tale! After some karaoke- and nailpolish-related banter, she and Brooke break down how Amanda found the right experts to help her achieve the TEDx goal, and how we can all relate to putting ourselves out there in an incredibly vulnerable (albeit exciting) position.
BUT… as with any big undertaking, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. Amanda gets honest about some of the unexpected lessons that came from the experience. (*Special note: Amanda discusses some feedback that she received prior to her talk. Amanda wants to be crystal clear that the feedback she received did NOT come from, nor was it endorsed by, a member of the TEDxRutgersCamden team. The entire TEDxRutgersCamden team was made up of extremely talented and gracious young students, and they had no part in this.)
Amanda’s current joy sparker this week comes in the form of a Retail Angel named Khay (who she incorrectly called Shay in the episode - doh!) who saved her in the 11th hour of her TEDx experience, and Brooke shares a favor to her future self that is relatable to anyone with a snoring housemate.
